The brain is the body’s most important and complex organ. It adapts to, reacts to, or causes everything humans experience in life. In addition, research
has shown that the brain-body connection affects overall health in countless ways, including the way people think, feel, act, and react. However, most
people know very little about the brain, the central nervous system, the body’s other systems, and how they all interrelate, or how to improve brain functioning without the use of medication or surgery.
In this book, Dr. Hatch uses consumer-oriented terms and language to explain brain functioning, the brain-body connection, and the various body
systems that impact physical and emotional health. He also describes how disconnects in the brain can lead to a host of health issues, including mental disorders, digestive problems, learning disabilities, problems with balance, nervous system issues, and so forth.
The book concludes with understandable explanations about the way neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to change) and brain rehabilitation can lead to long-lasting improvements in brain functioning, overall health, and emotional wellbeing.

Coming from a non-medical field, I was impressed how Dr. Hatch clearly and plainly explains the important role of our nervous system and how it integrates with all the other systems within our body. It was an easy read but full of wonderful insight on misconceptions regarding aches, pains, sicknesses, etc and where they stem from. Non-medical and medical readers alike would benefit from Dr. Hatch's research.

The Basis of Brain Rehab edition by John Hatch Ryan Hatch Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

Dr. Hatch skillfully walks the reader through a series of difficult scientific topics and breaks them down with familiar and descriptive examples to help grasp each concept. I especially liked the explanation of how neuron pools can work to activate more than one area. The parallel was drawn between neuron activation and road work. Dr. Hatch explains that, ". . .the fastest route to a destination is a freeway. But if the freeway has traffic or road work, there are alternate routes to get to your destination." This is what can happen in the brain and that concept is called "Neuroplasticity." An analysis of all major body systems to identify the location of an individual's imbalance is key to brain rehabilitation. How exciting to learn about the emerging field of Functional Neurology!

What an incredible read! Years ago, my own desire to help a special needs’ child with multiple learning disabilities took me down a road of research and learning that continues to this day. I have read hundreds of books about the brain, movement, learning disabilities and nutrition. “The Basis of Brain Rehab” does not disappoint! Dr. Hatch manages to put an incredible amount of scientific information into one book with specific examples that make it easy to understand. He brings hope to individuals suffering from all sorts of ailments as he explains the process of creating a plan for rehabilitating the brain. He discusses neuroplasticity and how specific exercises performed several times a day for three to five months can create new neural pathways. To a mom who has spent endless nights wondering and worrying about how to help a child who is not progressing normally, this kind of hope is truly a light shining through the darkness.

Dr. Hatch’s extensive knowledge as a functional neurologist is evident throughout the book, but I found his acknowledgement of other professionals and overall sense of humility extremely refreshing. A desire to help patients seek “…the right therapy, at the right time, and in the correct sequence…[to] generate the highest level of recovery possible…” is clearly his ultimate goal. I encourage anyone on a personal journey of health and healing to read this book!

The book was more technical than I enjoy, but the last chapter....the Conclusion, was wonderful. I'm a bit dyslexic (actually, a lot dyslexic) (double smiley face) so getting technical stuff is a struggle for me.
Must read!
Good book.
Easily readable and digestible book for medical providers....or just the everyday person who wants a better brain. Highly recommended.
